Strollers and prams are probably some of the most fun things to buy when you are either having kids or having more kids. It’s just something about buy a basically a little machine with wheels that you can put your kiddies in and tote them all over the place. We take our kids everywhere we go and there is no way it would be as easy without a really great stroller.

Bugaboo Cameleon

You can of course buy seperate baby strollers and prams or you can buy a single unit that does both. That, of course, comes with a price but it’s worth it in my mind to buy a really good, super configurable stroller that can serve all of your needs. The Bugaboo Cameleon stroller is the stroller that we bought for just that purpose, and I dont’ regret it for a second. It can start your little one off with a first class bassinet attached to that great bugaboo chassis.

Too Small To Stroll?

Before your baby can sit up he or she really shouldn’t be in a stroller per se at all, they should be lying down flat. And keeping them in a car seat is ok for a short time, but studies show it can be dangerous for long periods of time. So it makes a lot of sense to use a pram to do your strolling. We would take our kids out for long walks when they were babies and I didn’t want to have to worry about them not being comfortable and safe. The Cameleon, with the seat configured as a bassinet was the answer.

Awesome Features


The best thing about the Bugaboo series is they have a cornucopia of features. No other stroller that I know of can do the amazing things that thing can. For example:

  • Super Configurable – Out of the box, this thing can be configured as a stroller with a normal baby seat. Or if can be configured as a pram with the same frame, just configured a little differently.
  • Big Wheels – The wheels are just large they are foam filled. This means no fiddling around with air pumps and tubes.
  • Transverse-able HandleThe really neat thing about these bugaboo strollers and prams is that handle. It can flip to let you either push the big wheels first or the small wheels first. This is a huge plus when you are on rough terrain or even a bit of snow. It makes all the difference as to what you can take your stroller through. The other great thing about that handle is it drops to the floor to turn your stroller into a high chair at a restaurant of coffee shop. Very clever!
  • Perfect Brake – There is nothing worse than a brake that doesn’t actually stop the stroller from moving. The handbrake on the cameleon holds the wheels solidly from moving and thats as good as it gets. It’s not a poor friction brake, it’s a cog system that stops the wheel from moving completely.
  • Folds Down To Nothing – The stroller and pram is a cinch to take a part and breeze to fold up. No matter how small your car, the frame and seat and wheels will easily fit.
  • Goes Anywhere With Ease – You will see other people with strollers large and small that will struggle to get their kids in and out of stores and around clothing racks. You will never have this problem with the bugaboo. It turns on a dime, it easy to take up steps with those big wheels and it can be maneuvered in a store with one hand.
  • Big Canopy – This thing has a huge canopy. All strollers and prams should have a large configurable canopy like the Cameleon. It keeps the UV off your child and keeps the sun off of them when they are sleeping.

Downside?

The only real downside is the price. It’s not a cheap stroller. But considering that it will last a long time it’s worth it. Comfy For New Baby

The Bugaboo Cameleon, The Best Of Strollers and Prams

The Bugaboo Chameleon is a convertible stroller that can be versatile enough to grow with a child, from birth until toddler age. It also can manage different terrains and conditions. It can replace both strollers and prams with just one unit.

This stroller has some awesome features, besides its ability to convert. The aluminum frame can be changed to face either direction. It is easy to fold away for travel and storage. The lockable wheels are air-filled. When the smaller wheels are faced forward the stroller has a wonderful maneuverability. When the larger tires face forward the stroller can handle outdoor terrain. The wheels also have an adjustable suspension to make it a comfortable ride for the baby in all kinds of terrain. Converted to just the two larger tires, the stroller can be used at the beach.

The Best Of Old And New

One of the best features of the bugaboo chameleon is that it acts as both a pram and a stroller. Both a bassinet and a normal seat can be placed on the frame. With the bassinet, the stroller is a wonderful pram for an infant. The seat can face both directions. The seat is also easily adjustable to three different angles, allowing the stroller to go from use with an infant to a toddler.

The stroller is well-built. The sturdy aluminum frame can hold up to years of continuous use. It comes in a variety of colors, which can also be changed. To outline all it can do, an included training DVD allows parents to get the most from their purchase.

Lots Of Accessories

A number of useful accessories make the stroller even more useful. An adapter allows for its use with a car seat. A carrying case with wheels makes it easy to accompany the owner, while traveling. Weather accessories include an umbrella for rain, screens for sun and rain, and a padded cover for winter weather. Thicker wheels for snow are also available. An attachable stand allows for an older child to stand and be wheeled on the stroller. We use the toddler board( we call it a boogey board incorrectly…) extensively four our five year old.

While the Cameleon does provide all of the features of both stroller and pram, it does at a cost . The price tag of the bugaboo chameleon may be its biggest drawback. Accessories that make it more useful are typically also more money. It’s cargo space is acceptable, but not astoudning. It is also a complex baby stroller and has an associated learning curve. Though Bugaboo actually provides a training DVD. It really only takes a few minutes to understand, but to learn all of the cool features it’s worth watching.

From Infant To Toddler To Big Kid

This is a wonderful baby strollers and pram combination. It can change and does grow with the needs of your child. You can start with baby in the pram, convert to toddler in the stroller seat and if your next baby comes along your big kid can ride the toddler board with the new baby back in the pram. Overall the bugaboo chameleon has wonderful maneuverability, lockable wheels, suspension for a smooth ride, and a compact fold-up. It’s built to last and grow with your family.

Strollers And Prams Reviewed – The Bugaboo Cameleon vs. The BumbleRide Queen B

There are a plethora of strollers and prams on the market. Some of them convert from a pram to a stroller as your child grows, and some of them are only one or the other. With so many options available, it can be difficult to decide which product to purchase. Two popular prams/strollers that merit a comparison are the Bugaboo Cameleon and the BumbleRide Queen B.

The BumbleRide Queen B is a modern version of the classic pram, coming standard with a bassinet that sits on top of a four-wheeled frame. Both the bassinet and stroller seat can be reversed to allow your baby to face toward you, or away. As a pram the Queen B is pretty nice. Similar to the Bugaboo Cameleon, it has adjustable suspension on all four wheels, and the position of the stroller seat is adjustable to suit the needs of a growing baby. The Queen B comes with a car seat adapter strap, which is allows for setting your child’s bassinet-style car seat inside of the pram’s bassinet.

The More Versatile Cameleon

Both the BumbleRide Queen Bee and Bugaboo Cameleon use either a bassinet (carrycot) or seat and are convertible from a pram into a stroller. However, the Cameleon is a more versatile all-in-one than the Queen B. On both strollers/prams the seat or bassinet is reversible. On the Cameleon, the handlebar is also reversible, which allows for a change betweenleading with the large wheels, or the small wheels. The Queen B’s wheels are all the same size, and the pram cannot function with only two of them. For all-terrain strolling the Cameleon has the Queen B at a disadvantage because it can be used with only the large wheels for really difficult conditions like sand or snow.

Don’t Disturb A Sleeping Baby

The seat of the Cameleon pivots, so you can lay the whole seat down flat, without disturbing your sleeping child. The Queen B’s stroller seat backrest must be adjusted, which has been known to waken little ones. The Cameleon can be completely broken down and stored in its own rollaway case and the Cameleon seat balances on the ground, serving as a toddler or baby seat when a stroller or pram is not needed. The Queen B is not quite as modular. Though they have similar weight capacities, the Cameleon itself is eleven pounds lighter than the Queen B. Children weigh enough. The word pram is a shortened version of “perambulator” and refers to a wheeled baby carriage for young infants to lie down in, generally facing the person pushing the pram.
